Butler, N.Y. (WHAM) - State Police said an armed man was arrested for breaking into an 83-year-old woman's home in Butler in the middle of the night.
According to our news partners at the Times of Wayne County, the woman called 911 around 12:30 a.m. to report the incident.
State Police said the woman, who lives on Whiskey Hill Road, woke up to find an armed man smiling at her. He jumped out of a window in her room and ran from the house.
Trooper said they caught the man at the front of the house. He initially lied about his name to police, but was later identified as 39-year-old Cory Wren. The man was wearing a left shoulder holster and pistol at the time, according to police.
Wren did have a permit for the weapon he was carrying, according to police.
Troopers said Wren told them he had a heroin problem and was a veteran.
Police are also investigating the possibility that Wren had entered at least one other home in the area.
Wren was charged with first-degree criminal trespass and criminal impersonation. He was arraigned and remanded to the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
