Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - A historic school in Rochester unveiled a 21st century makeover on Monday morning.

School No. 16 in Rochester held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Scio Street.

The school, which was built in 1910, now has a brand new look while taking care to preserve the historical accents of the building.

The modernization process is about more than just appearances, though.

"It is a vibrant, whimsical learning environment that will allow students to learn in a clean, calm, orderly learning environment," said Carol Roberts, principal at School No. 16.

John Walton Spencer School No. 16 joins several other schools in the district that were given an overhaul as part of the Rochester City School District Modernization Program.
