Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Officials in Rochester are asking Amazon to consider the Rochester community as a potential location for Amazon's expansion.
Amazon announced this week that it is seeking a location for its second headquarters in North America. The headquarters, dubbed "HQ2", will receive more than $5 billion in construction and bring in as many as 50,000 high-paying jobs.
Dan Smith, Senior Director of Communications for the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, said Rochester Chamber CEO Bob Duffy sent a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in January. Duffy followed up with a second letter Thursday, saying the Rochester community at large would be submitting a bid.
"I believe Rochester would be the perfect match for Amazon," Duffy wrote in the first letter dated January 31, 2017.
The letter goes on to laud the history of entrepreneurship, philanthropy and innovation in Rochester and the Finger Lakes area.
The deadline for Requests For Proposals is October 19.
