Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - A Rochester woman accused of leaving the scene of a car crash that killed her husband has been indicted by a Monroe County grand jury.

Malachia Wallace-Johnson, 46, was indicted on one count of leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident.

On February 3, Rochester Police said a car driving on Lake Avenue turned left onto Phelps Avenue and crashed into an oncoming car. The passenger of the first car, 50-year-old Maurice Johnson, had to be extricated by Rochester firefighters. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with a leg injury, and later died at the hospital.

Wallace-Johnson was later identified as the driver of the car in which Maurice Johnson was riding. She turned herself over to police five days later.

Court documents showed Wallace-Johnson had also been charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device, but the grand jury chose not to indict her on those charges.
