Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - It has been a year-and-a-half in the making.

On Thursday morning, the Seneca Park Zoo officially opened its newly-constructed Animals of the Savanna expansion.

The new space includes 20 species of animals, such as giraffes and zebras.

Among the new non-animal additions is a tram that will shuttle guests between the front of the zoo and the new Savanna exhibit in the back.

The Animals of the Savanna expansion cost $13.5 million, part of a $60 million overall project that will add several new elements and features to the zoo.

A new restaurant and a tropics complex are among the next steps in the campaign for A Wilder Vision to expand the Seneca Park Zoo.
