Consultant's report on RCSD focus of public meeting with state education commissioner
Rochester, N.Y. – State education leaders met Thursday evening in Rochester to discuss an appointed consultant’s report of issues within the Rochester City School District.
The report, authored by Dr. Jaime Aquino, said that the systems, structure and operations of the school district are in, “dire need of improvement.”
The Rochester School Board has until February 8 to release a full action plan responding to the suggestions and concerns raised in Aquino’s report.
Thursday, Dr. Aquino was joined by State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia and other education officials for a community meeting to discuss the findings.
Among the topics brought up were questions of whether the district could go into receivership, or if school board members could be removed.
"I can't say this more clearly: There is nothing off the table here," said Elia. "We cannot allow Rochester to move forward with the number of issues that we have had identified for us that are very clearly part of the history of Rochester. We have got to address those issues."
