Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - If you are a crafty person, you may have noticed that certain arts and crafts stores in our area are running out of a certain item.
Glue is a hot commodity - and there's one reason why.
One of the hottest trends for young children across the U.S. is to make homemade slime to play with. You may have done so yourself as a child. The ingredients include regular Elmer's Glue, which has been in high demand.
Suzanne Neace of Webster said her twin 11-year-old stepdaughters are fixated. "They're always sharing materials and colors and trading, and glitter and things like that," she said. "It's just to make like slime and goo, and I don't know what it's purpose is, but apparently it's fun."
JoAnn Fabrics, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, AC Moore, and Target stores in the Rochester area all confirmed to 13WHAM News they have seen a surge in the sales of glue.
"My husband was out shopping this weekend with them, and apparently in Webster there is no Elmer's Glue anywhere at any of the major retailers," said Neace.
Dan's Crafts & Things is also running low on Elmer's white glue in the gallon size, and said there's currently a waiting list.
"Elmer's white glue, it's been hard to keep in stock," said Curtis Donalies of Dan's Crafts & Things in Irondequoit. "None of the suppliers have glue to send it to us, so essentially we're waiting for suppliers to get it to get it back in."
Kids are also making and selling slime to their friends.
