Court documents: Woman hit man in head with barbell in Old Edgemere Dr. homicide

Greece Police have arrested a suspect in a homicide investigation on Old Edgemere Drive.

Greece, N.Y. (WHAM) - Greece Police have arrested a woman in a homicide investigation on Old Edgemere Drive.

Cynthia Whitaker, 41, of Greece is charged with one count of Manslaughter in the second degree.

"This person of interest was developed relatively quickly after we responded to the scene. She was located relatively quickly. She was brought into the police department for an interview, and that ultimately lead to her arrest last night," said Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan.

Chief Phelan said Whitaker was arraigned earlier in the morning and has been brought to the Monroe County Jail. She's being held on $250,000 bond.

Police found Whitaker in Rochester at the 490 Motel. She voluntarily interviewed with officers.

"They've had a dating relationship for several years, so the victim and the suspect were well-acquainted," said Chief Phelan.

Chief Phelan said Whitaker's charges could be upgraded.

On Tuesday afternoon, police responded to a home on Old Edgemere Drive after 69-year-old Michael Taylor was found dead in his home.

Police say Taylor's son had not heard from his father in a few days. He found his dad lying in a pool of blood in his kitchen.

Court paperwork states Whitaker threw a barbell weight at Taylor, hitting him in the head. However, police said there were other injuries to his body.

The cause of death is still being determined.

"That still needs to be determined by the medical examiner’s office," said Phelan. "There was definitely some blunt force trauma to the head of the victim, but there may be other injuries."
