Teen Police Academy gives local teens a closer look at police work

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is giving teenagers a closer look at the police profession.

The Teen Police Academy started on Monday. It's a one week academy at the Public Safety Training Facility that provides 50 teenagers in the community with an in-depth view of of the Sheriff's Office.

During the week, students participate in police training and drills. They also attend field trips to places like the Hall of Justice, 911 Center, and the Monroe County Jail where they meet the Sheriff and his staff.

The Teen Police Academy is free of charge.
