Midlakes student seriously injured in Ontario County crash

PHELPS, N.Y. (WHAM) - Deputies are investigating a crash in Ontario County that seriously injured a 17-year-old girl Sunday evening.

It happened around 5:00 p.m. on S. Marbletown Road in Phelps.

Deputies say 21-year-old Justin Palombi was driving with 17-year-old Kaitlyn Ingerick in the car when he lost control of his car after traveling around a curve. He then crashed into a tree and pole.

Ingerick was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries after she had to be extracted from the car. Deputies say she is in critical condition.

Palombi's hand was injured in the crash. He was also taken to the hospital for his injuries.

The road was closed for hours while crews investigated, but has since been reopened.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Palombi was ticketed for DWAI-drugs, speeding, failure to keep right, unlicensed operation, and reckless driving. Deputies say more charges are pending against him.
