A new friendship has formed, thanks to a cold drink on a hot day.

15-year-old Troy Mazatti was riding his bicycle Wednesday when he saw a Sheriff's deputy parked outside Parma Town Court.

It was then he decided to ride a mile up the road in the 90 degree heat, and then ride back to the deputy, to deliver a cool treat and a message.

"I decided why not spare an extra dollar? It's no big deal," said Mazatti. "I just bought him an extra iced tea since it was so hot out that day, but I really didn't think much of it." he said.

"He explained that he knows that we go through a lot, what we deal with as police officers, and he said that he wanted me to know that he appreciated me and then he gave me a nice cold iced tea," said Deputy Robert Day. "It just struck me that he was a great kid and I wanted him to be recognized for that."

As a thank you, Deputy Day gave the teen a trading coin, which is a sign of friendship at the Sheriff's Office.
