Power likely to remain out for 5,000 homes until Tuesday morning
MONROE AND ORLEANS COUNTIES (WHAM) - Power will likely remain out for as many as 5,000 homes and businesses within Monroe and Orleans Counties until Tuesday morning.
National Grid reports more than 5,000 customers are without power. At peak, there were 17,100 customers without power.
National Grid says the wooden structure that holds transmission lines up in the air came down in Hamlin. Crews are still working to repair that structure.
A helicopter patrol was called in to help determine the problem.
There are also patrols along the ground power lines from Sweden to Lockport.
Restoration will come in stages and began in the Brockport area late Monday morning.
Due to the high demand for power because of the heat, the utility company is unable to move any additional customers to other lines because they do not want to overload the lines.
Homeowners and business owners in Clarkson, Hamlin and Kendall will likely be without power until early Tuesday morning.
