D.A.: Town justice in Ontario County embezzled thousands while in office

Canandaigua, N.Y. (WHAM) - A justice in Ontario County was arrested and charged with stealing money from the town she served.

According to the Ontario County District Attorney's Office, Manchester Town Justice Erika Martin was arraigned Wednesday on a felony grand larceny 3rd charge.

Martin is accused of embezzling more than $3,000 from the Town of Manchester in fines and surcharges while acting as the town justice.

D.A. Michael Tantillo said Martin was elected in November 2015. He said the alleged thefts began during Martin's first month in office (January 2016) and continued through December 13.

She had no bail set at her arraignment and was released on her own recognizance.

Judge William Kocher, who arraigned Martin in court, instructed her not to hear any more cases on the bench until further notice or until this matter is resolved.

Martin is scheduled to return to court on April 5 at 10 a.m.
