Irondequoit, N.Y. – The Town of Irondequoit and the former owner of Medley Centre, Bersin Properties, have reached a settlement regarding past unpaid taxes.

The settlement, totaling $1.4 million, will see funds split evenly between the town and the East Irondequoit School District. $900,000 of that settlement will be received in the next month.

Town Supervisor David Seeley released the following statement in regard to the settlement:

Over the past several days, the East Irondequoit Central School District and Town of Irondequoit have been working collaboratively to reach a settlement with Bersin Properties, the former owner of Medley Centre. We believe we have reached terms with parties representing Bersin that will allow us to move on from this unwelcome chapter in our Town’s history, while providing sufficient compensation to the taxpayers of Irondequoit. Some have argued that pursuing any settlement was an exercise in futility. This pending agreement proves otherwise.
The residents of Irondequoit have shown resiliency and patience throughout this multi-year ordeal. It was always my belief that any payments owed to Town Government were really owed to the taxpayers of Irondequoit. With that in mind, it is our intention to re-invest every penny received through this pending settlement towards the construction of a new town community center at the former Mall.
I am confident that this ordeal has made our community stronger. Irondequoit is moving forward.
