Pittsford, N.Y. (WHAM) - New apartments are being renovated to help individuals with disabilities live independently.

CP Rochester and the Golisano Foundation held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the building that will house the transitional apartments on Pinnacle Road in Pittsford.

There will be seven individual apartments renovated. They are expected to open in July 2019.

Both organizations said the apartments give the people living there an opportunity to be a part of the community.

"To be able to live in these transitional apartments means that they can be independent in the community and be part of the community," said Ann Costello, Director of the Golisano Foundation.

CP Rochester said many of the people moving into these apartments will be moving out of their family's home for the first time.

The original transition apartments opened in Ontario County in 2014 and have helped 13 people with disabilities move into independent living.
