Ashland, N.Y. – A New York State trooper found a threatened animal in a dog cage in the back of the pickup truck, Saturday.
The truck had pulled over along I-86 in Ashland, Chemung County with a flat tire.
The trooper stopped to help and found the Canadian lynx in a dog cage in the back of the truck.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation helped with the investigation and learned the people in the truck were driving the animal illegally from Illinois to Binghamton.
The operator was charged with transport/possess threatened wildlife without a permit.
The lynx was turned over to the DEC.
