Two men arrested in Webster car theft investigation

Webster, N.Y. (WHAM) - Two men were arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly stealing from vehicles in Webster.

Police were called to the area of Sunningdale Rise and Aria Lane around 1:30 a.m. for the report of a suspicious man who might be breaking into vehicles.

Officers responded to the area and found a man hiding in bushes near Heathland Circle and Sunningdale Rise. A short time later, a second man was found hiding behind a vehicle parked in a driveway along Aria Lane.

Police arrested 27-year-old Matthew Wheaton and 32-year-old David Burley and charged both with fourth-degree grand larceny, fifth-degree conspiracy, and petit larceny.

Both men were arrested in Webster Town Court and released to pre-trial services.

Webster Police said this is an opportunity to remind all people to lock their cars, homes and close their garage doors at night. Do not keep valuable items inside your car.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious or has information about Wheaton or Burley should call 911.
