Two men sentenced for 2017 Christmas Day murder on Genesee Street
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Two men were sentenced Thursday to at least 25 years in prison for a Christmas Day murder at an apartment building on Genesee Street in 2017.
Joshua Burns and Elzie James,who are both 19, will be serving state prison sentences in connection to the death of 35-year-old Jarvis Porter. Burns was convicted last month of second-degree murder by a jury; James pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter back in May.
Prosecutors said on December 25, 2017, Burns and James encountered Porter inside the apartment building and shot him in the face with a shotgun.
Monroe County Court Judge Sam Valleriani sentenced Burns to 25 years to life.
James was sentenced to 25 years in prison with five years post-release supervision.
