Rochester, N.Y. – More than 1,400 first-year students at the University of Rochester are starting the year off learning to give back.

Monday was the U. of R.’s Wilson Day of Community Service.

Students spent the day performing community service work across the Rochester area.

Sam Syed of Pakistan helped organize books at the Mt. Hope Family Center.

“It feels really good,” Sam said, “because, where I come from, there’s lots of poor people and people going through traumatizing things, and it feels really good to give back to the community.”

Wilson Day is the university’s way of getting students into the community they’ll live in for the next four years.
