Villa of Hope among programs receiving NY funding for more detox beds

Albany, N.Y. (WHAM) - A $10 million award split among five providers will add , including two programs in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes area.

Governor Cuomo announced the award Tuesday that will fund 84 new Medically Supervised Withdrawal and Stabilization Services beds. These are part of detox programs to help people who are fighting alcohol, opioids, or other substance abuse addictions.

Villa of Hope will receive $2.14 million to fund 18 beds. The Genesee Council on Alcoholism & Substance Abuse, Inc. will receive $1.9 million for 16 beds. The Council serves people in Genesee, Orleans & Wyoming Counties.

The programs help to stabilize them and connect them to long-term treatment services. They offer medical assessment, information about recovery support, family treatment, clinical services, and medication to manage withdrawal symptoms.

For Villa of Hope, their 24-hour facility will offer structured, around-the-clock treatment programs supervised by physicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists and licensed therapists. In any given day, patients will meet with doctor, nurses, therapists, group therapy where they learn how to stay clean and sober. After completing withdrawal, patients are transitioned for treatment in other programs such as the Villa of Hope Outpatient Clinic or a residential and group home.

"We need to eliminate barriers and stigma to get people the help they need – when and where they need it,” said Christina Gullo, President and CEO of Villa of Hope. “Drugs are killing our friends, neighbors and young people – they are killing our communities. We all need to step up and take on this challenge.”
