Washington Post columnist talks connecting with teens at McQuaid
Brighton, N.Y. – McQuaid Jesuit played host to a nationally-published columnist Monday.
Washington Post columnist and clinical professional counselor Phyllis Fagell spoke at the school. The focus of her presentation was on keeping parents and children connected with each other, and how to maintain relationships in the face of busy schedules, change and technology.
Speaking at an all-boys school, Fagell said she wanted to take some additional time Monday to speak to parents about connecting with boys at what can sometimes be a difficult age.
“They might seem less willing to connect and to talk, but actually they’re just as interested in staying connected,” said Fagell, “and so you really need to get creative and figure out how to reach them at a time when, although it looks like they want to be disengaged, they want to connect as much as ever – they just want to connect differently.”
The event was sponsored by the McQuaid Jesuit Principal’s Office and Parent’s Association.
