Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - A Spencerport High School junior is recovering in New York City. 12 days ago, 17-year-old Brian Bynoe had a heart transplant after suffering from cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure.

Friday, at his high school, Brian’s junior class took a group picture to let Brian know he was in their thoughts. They dressed in red to celebrate his new heart during what is “Heart Month."

“He’s like a brother to everyone," said friend Emma Soule. “He’s like family."

Malasia Sero, wearing a red shirt with a heart on it Friday, called Brian a fighter.

Spencerport Assistant Principal Tim O’Connor said Brian’s motto, fittingly is, “I got this." And just in case, his Spencerport family has got his back.
