Elmira, N.Y. – An Elmira man convicted on drug charges will spend 23 years behind bars.
Robert Ian Thatcher, 31, ran a large-scale drug manufacturing and trafficking operation in the Southern Tier and northern Pennsylvania between 2015 and May 2017.
Prosecutors say they ordered furanyl fentanyl and U-47700 through the dark web from China and made tens of thousands of homemade pills.
Two people died after taking the pills, and another individual overdosed multiple times.
13 others, to date, have been convicted on federal drug charges stemming from this operation.
