State DEC awards $87 million in grants for water improvement projects

Albany, N.Y./Chili, N.Y. – The Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District will receive a portion of $87 million in grant money being distributed across the state for water quality improvement projects.

Wednesday, State DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the grant fund distribution, saying the grants, “build on the state’s ongoing commitment to protect vital drinking water and have the the power to economically revitalize,” target communities.

The funds going toward Monroe County will be used to stabilize and restore an eroded section of Black Creek, create a flood relief channel and provide training and education for the public and officials.
