Howard, N.Y. - Three men from Steuben County have been arrested on animal cruelty after Sheriff's deputies say they left several animals in the cold without food or shelter.

Donald Rush, 58, 65-year-old-Gary Rush and 69- year-old Garner Rush of Howard, New York are each charged with overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, as well as failure to provide proper sustenance and appropriate shelter for dogs left outdoors.

Investigators said they responded to the suspects' residence following an anonymous tip. There, they found 32 dogs, six puppies and a kitten. All were seized due to extreme weather conditions and a lack of food, they say.

Veterinarians who performed intake examinations found some of the dogs had untreated health problems and that many of them were not socialized to people.

The Finger Lakes SPCA, Hornell Humane Society and other groups worked together to provide shelter and medical care for the animals.

The Sheriff's Office reminds pet owners to keep their animals inside or to provide them with adequate shelter.
