Woman, 27, in guarded condition after hit-and-run crash on Dewey Ave
Greece, N.Y. (WHAM) - Rochester Police said 27-year-old Erica Gentner suffered serious injuries after she was struck by a car early Sunday morning.
Police are still searching for the driver who left the scene of that crash on Dewey Avenue in between Christian and Winchester Roads.
Neighbors said Monday they don't know the victim, but feel bad anytime something like this happens.
They said speed is often a factor in many accidents on that stretch of road. The NYSDOT tells 13 WHAM 17,000 cars travel daily along that part of Dewey Avenue.
Neighbors said people drive too fast and don't slow down when people are trying to cross the road.
Pamela Putz grew up in this area and said she had a friend who was killed by a car when she was younger.
She said something needs to be done to slow down traffic. She said police do radar and speed enforcement but cannot be there everyday.
Ed Verdouw lives just off Dewey Avenue. He said speed bumps have forced cars on some nearby side streets to slow down, but he doesn't know if that would work on a busy street like Dewey Avenue.
Pamela Putz suggested red light cameras to slow traffic down.
The state DOT could not provide us accident rates on Dewey.
Rochester Police are still searching for the driver in that crash.
Erica Gentner remains in guarded condition in the hospital.
