Rochester driver dies after car crashes at McDonald's

A man was seriously injured after crashing his car outside a McDonald's at the corner of Lexington and Lake Avenues Saturday afternoon.

Rochester, N.Y. - A Rochester man died Saturday afternoon after the car he was driving hit multiple items, eventually coming to rest outside a McDonald's in Rochester.

The crash happened around 4 pm at the McDonald's on Lexington and Lake Avenues.

Authorities said the driver, later identified as 62-year-old James Eckberg suffered a medical issue while driving and lost control of the car.

Police said the vehicle went "over a median, over the sidewalk, taking down a pole and railing. The vehicle then continued over the embankment, thru the parking lot of McDonald's, struck another pole before coming to rest next to the building."

The pole hit by the vehicle proceeded to strike the front of the store, breaking a window and damaging siding.

The driver's wife was riding in the car and was also injured, but is expected to survive. She's 66 years old.
