Former Rochester Royals player, Bobby Wanzer dies
Rochester, N.Y. - Bobby Wanzer, a former NBA player for the Rochester Royals and coach of the St. John Fisher College Cardinals men's basketball team, has died at the age of 94 the school reports.
Wanzer coached at Fisher for 24 years and was the first head coach for Fisher's men's basketball team in 1963.
In the NBA, he was a five-time all-star and was a key member of the Royals backcourt when they won the NBA championship over the New York Knicks in 1951.
In 1987, Wanzer was elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
He became an inaugural member of St. John Fisher's Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992. In addition, the floor at the Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium was renamed the "Bobby Wanzer Court" in 2006.
According to his obituary, Wanzer passed away peacefully at his home in Pittsford on January 23.
