Winter storm warning in WNY
Rochester, NY- A winter storm warning is in effect through 8 PM Wednesday for all of WNY.
A very powerful Nor'Easter off the east coast will pull tremendous amounts of Atlantic moisture over Arctic air in place for WNY today, tonight, and Wednesday.
The result will be the seasons largest snow event with many areas seeing more than a foot of snow by Wednesday morning. Areas closer to the Lake Ontario shoreline and north of Rt. 104 could see amounts approach 20" by Wednesday evening. Snow amounts will also be enhanced by a northeast flow from Lake Ontario through Wednesday evening.
As the wind turns to the northwest we expect extensive blowing and drifting snow with near zero visibility at times Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Snow amounts of this magnitude will cause widespread travel delays and numerous closings and cancellations. No unnecessary travel is recommended.
