Jason Botterill was in Rochester to play golf with fellow alumni of the Rochester Americans on Tuesday.
Consider it one of few breaks he's taken from his day job of building the Buffalo Sabres organization back into a winner.
The first step towards accomplishing that? Signing Jack Eichel to a long-term extension.
The young forward is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and is expected to command a max-level contract. But Botterill sounds ready to give him that, and sounds optimistic that a deal may not be that far away.
"Our discussions have been very positive," Botterill said on Tuesday. "At the end of the day we want to get Jack signed up for the maximum term possible. He has the same belief."
What's the maximum term possible? Well, Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid just signed an 8-year, $100 million deal this offseason. Eichel may not command as much money, but the length of the deal is what Botterill sounds like he's ready to sign on for.
