York Girls Soccer Finishes Win Over State Powerhouse in Exciting Fashion

Even though the York girls soccer team was up against a Geneseo side with an 11-2 record that came into the day ranked seventeenth in the state in its classification, the Golden Knights picked up the win in the end by a score of 2-1. The winning goal came on a penalty kick by junior captain Jennifer Mandarano with twenty minutes left in regulation. That penalty kick resulted from the Geneseo goalkeeper colliding with a York player while punching away the ball for a save. Alyssa Churchill put an exclamation point on the victory with a clutch reaching save with only 22 seconds left in regulation after the ball rocketed out of a scrum following a free kick.
