Possible playoff preview ends with Gill's overtime winner, 6-5

If the playoffs started before Saturday's game, the Rochester Americans would match up with the Toronto Marlies in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

If Saturday's game was a preview of things to come, we could be in for a wild ride.

Sahir Gil started the scoring less than a minute in to the game, then won it 1:45 into overtime, giving the Amerks a much-needed 6-5 victory.

Hudson Fasching also scored twice for Rochester, including the game-tying goal with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

Colin Blackwell scored for the seventh time in his last five games, while Justin Bailey continued his improved play of late with the Amerks other tally.

The win, combined with a loss by Utica to Syracuse, put the Amerks back in third place in the North division with just three games to go. If Rochester finishes in third, they will play the Syracuse Crunch in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs. If they fall back to fourth, they will draw the Marlies.

Rochester's final three games are all next week, starting with another possible playoff preview Wednesday against the Syracuse Crunch, followed by the home finale on Friday against Belleville. The Amerks will conclude the regular season in Syracuse on Saturday.

The Calder Cup playoffs begin the following week.
