Red Wings lose game and control of playoff destiny, 7-2

The Rochester Red Wings lost more than a game on Sunday.

The Wings fell to Pawtucket 7-2, but watched as Lehigh Valley swept Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a doubleheader 4-3 and 2-0.

Rochester's magic number to clinch a postseason berth was two on Saturday, meaning any combination of either two Rochester Red Wings wins or Lehigh Valley losses would get them in the playoffs. But Rochester hasn't won since and Lehigh Valley hasn't lost.

The two teams are now tied atop the IL wild card standings. Rochester can still get in the playoffs with a win in the season finale Monday, but they also now need a Lehigh Valley loss. If both teams win or lose, the Iron Pigs will be on their way to the postseason, as they own the tie breaker over the Wings.
