The schedule said Syracuse was hosting Cornell on Saturday, but followers of college basketball knew the game was big for a much different reason.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim became the first known coach in Division I basketball to coach one son against another son.

That would be Buddy (a freshman at Syracuse) against Jimmy (a sophomore at Cornell).

Neither player was great on Saturday. Buddy had three points, Jimmy had nine. But Tyus Battle and Oshae Brissett combined for 47 points, and Syracuse was able to hold off a fierce upset bid by the Little Red 63-55, improving to 5-2 this season.

The Orange return to the court Tuesday night against Northeastern.
