SU/Duke matchup pits Division 1's most-winning coaches against one another

Omaha, Neb. – The Syracuse Orange will take on Duke Friday night in the NCAA Tournament. It’s a big matchup for both teams – and the coaches of each.

This will be a matchup of the all-time most-winning coaches in Division One Basketball history – more than 2,000 between Jim Boeheim and Mike Krzyzewski. But Friday’s Sweet 16 matchup will be just the second time the two have met in the NCAA Tournament. The first time was 20 years ago, also in the Sweet 16 – and Duke won.

The two Hall of Famers are more than just competitors. They are also great friends in and outside this realm – winning three Olympic gold medals as coaches with Team USA.

While it’s the coaches’ second time meeting in the Sweet 16, this will be the third meeting ever between Duke and Syracuse. The last time was in 1966, when Boeheim was a senior with the Orange. Duke won that game, too.
